A couple of nights ago when we got home from the crocodile farm, we had a homemade dinner prepared for us by the lovely Nana (who we think Aziz kind of likes!) She was limited in what she could make since we barely had enough groceries plus we forgot our beans at the market, but she made a delicious stew using tomatoes, garlic, onions, hot peppers, egg, and a couple of other spices. We ate it with home made plantains and white rice. It was the tastiest meal we've had since we've been here.
Nana was so kind. She refused to let us clean up, and made us plenty to have enough for the next day.
So Sunday we decided to go shopping for a few souvenirs. We couldn't go to too many stores as they are closed on Sundays, but we took our friend Edna along with us- she was very sweet. Poor girl was sweating buckets when we first met her, because Aziz had forgotten her in the car! But Jonathan kindly bought her a bracelet and Bertina gave her a special charm from Taiwan, and she got some pencils from me, so I think overall, Edna had a good day.
Jonathan and I were taking our leftovers out back for the goats when we came across these neighborhood girls. Again, Jonathan took right up with them and even gifted them with bubbles, which they LOVED...in exchange for borrowing their pot. We weren't nearly as good as they were with balancing them on our heads.
Then last night, Hamza (I think I've been spelling his name wrong this whole time) invited us to his friend's birthday party. It was really fun to see how the locals party! 99% of the guests were nurses from the hospital. We had a really good time learning the Azunto, the latest Ghanian dance. I've posted a video, but kind of hard to see...

Even our youngest guest was dancing the night away |

A bench. Don't ask. |
It was nice to see people just having a good time and relaxing. I tried 2 days in a row to get my hair braided...
Today at work I decided to venture to different parts of the hospital. I went to the NICU for a few hours first...

Tenting of the skin from dehydration- you'll virtually NEVER see this in the U.S. |

Some of our tiniest friends' diapers hang down to their ankles |

Perhaps I should have brought a smaller stethescope |

Just plain cute. |

As you can see, they use wheat flour bags as bedsheets because they are soft |

I've never seen an emaciated neonate. Until today. |
As you can tell, it was a plethora of emotions. Next, i went to the Emergency Department. The first picture below is the actual ED, and the area underneath it is the doctors/nurses area.
Pictured on the wall is a guideline for malaria, one of the most common diagnoses.
Jonathan manually administering meds to a little baby who lost her IV.
It was a good day.

Love the pics!! Those braids look painful :/ I have a feeling this will not be your last trip to Ghana! It is so great to see your smiling face as I know you have wanted this for so long. I think they are going to miss you just as much as you are going to miss them when you leave :)
